BEN CLOSES OUT 2008 SEASON WITH SALE OF RACE CAR
Ben was loaded and ready to leave for the 14th Annual Fall Classic at Whynot Motorsports Park when the phone rang and the person calling said he wanted to purchase Ben’s car turn-key as is. That’s a good thing when your new car is sitting in the shop ready for final assembly, but not so good when you’re ready to go racing. An agreement was made with the perspective buyer that Ben would go put some laps on the new engine, see where he would start in the heat race and then determine how big of a chance he would take in the feature.
Ben started outside front row in the first heat, but a miscalculation on the setup limited his chance of winning and he finished 4th. That earned him a 13th place starting position in Saturday night’s main event and an excellent opportunity to bend up the fresh body and decking he had just replaced. Realizing he had the car sold to a good buyer from Fort Worth, Texas, Ben dropped to the rear of Saturday night’s race, collected his start money and took her back to the shop only needing a good wash job.
Monday night the folks from Texas showed up, liked what they saw and loaded Ben’s five-time winning Larry Shaw modified and headed back to the Lone Star State.
Ben finished the 2008 season with 5 feature wins, 15 top five finishes and 16 top ten’s. We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their loyal support throughout the years and we look forward to the 2009 season.
Ben will debut his 2009 LUCAS OIL/SCHOENFELD HEADERS/AERO RACE WHEELS/BERT TRANSMISSION/LARRY SHAW Modified February 12-14 at Eastbay Raceway’s Winter Nationals in Tampa, FL.
